Physical AI describes AI systems designed to operate in physical environments rather than only process digital information. Robotics is its clearest application, but the concept also includes simulation and embodied agents.
The Physical AI stack
A practical stack includes sensing, perception, world modeling, reasoning, planning, action generation and low-level control. Hardware adds constraints that do not appear in purely digital AI.
Why robot embodiment matters
Physical AI becomes embodiment-aware when a system must adapt intelligence to a particular body. Different robots have different sensors, actuators, workspaces and dynamics, making transfer a central research challenge.
